Cummings, MacLaren
Entrepreneurship@Cornell Advisory Council Member
Terakeet Corporation
Mac Cummings started his first software company out of his Cascadilla Hall dormitory room at age 19. The company, Mindshark Software and Consulting, did a $500,000 profit by his Junior Year. During that time, Mac was an active member of the Cornell Entrepreneur Organization and began actively building other businesses. In 2001, Cummings co-founded Terakeet Corporation with two classmates and raised significant financing for the company. Since that time, Terakeet has experienced considerable growth in both employees and revenue. Terakeet, located in Syracuse, NY has grown to a large and profitable company with customers in nearly every state. The company specializes in Web Strategy, which it has provided to Fortune 500 companies and presidential campaigns, as well as custom software development. In 2004, Cummings founded CD Technology partners where he’s made significant investments in early stage technology ideas and inventions. In 2005, Cummings helped launch and invested in US Beveragenet Corporation, a company that measures and reconciles the flow of beer from the keg to the tap. USBN’s technology is currently being licensed by companies such as Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, and in Fenway Park (home of the Boston Red Sox). Mac also owns an I-phone development firm called PKO sports, a firm developing retargeted advertising, and co-owns a new media company in Virginia with former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe. In 2007, Mac was recruited by Hillary Clinton to run and direct her online strategy following major losses in the February primaries. Cummings went on to raise nearly $70M for her campaign and performed the effort completely on a volunteer basis while taking a leave from Terakeet. Shortly thereafter, Terakeet was hired by the Obama For America campaign as its exclusive search strategy provider. Cummings is a 2001 Graduate of Cornell University’s ILR School.
