The original idea of marketing solar energy products started when working with an Earth Science Regents product in the state of New York. The regent’s project allows students to choose from a large number of topics including solar heating. After selecting the solar heating topic, Adam became interested in the processes of solar energy, and its practical use in thermal heating applications. The thought of marketing solar energy items aroused from both my natural entrepreneurial tendencies and entrepreneurial environment. Once fully involved in solar energy products, they started focusing on designing different applications for solar energy products. After spending a full summer of casual “research & development”, it was understood that they had development applications where solar energy was not currently being used, or areas that had not yet been fully developed. Furthermore, the starting capital used came from their personal savings, an amount of $800. This money was earned during summer time jobs and lawn mowing services.  In August of 1999, Silicon Solar LLC was founded in the State of New York establishing Matt & Adam Farrell as the owners of the corporation. After forming the corporation, they were able to open checking accounts, copyright access, and base to start a company on.
